Miguel was lost on February 7, 2024, when the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter he was aboard crashed in Pine Valley, California, approximately 50 miles east of San Diego. Four others aboard were also killed; they were members of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 361.
