LTJG Lorimer was lost on June 29, 2021. At the time of his passing, he was stationed in Groton, CT serving as the Reactor Control Assistant onboard the USS INDIANA (SSN 789).

LTJG Lorimer was a standout student and midshipmen during his four years at the United States Naval Academy, exemplified by graduating with honors as a “Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Graduate”, receiving several awards, and holding several company leadership positions such as Brigade Training Sergeant. After commissioning, LTJG Lorimer attended Navy Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC where he finished with the top of his class and earned the Personal Excellence Award. After Power School, he completed SOBC training in Groton, CT and then reported to his first boat, USS INDIANA (SSN 789), which is stationed in Groton, CT.

LTJG Lorimer always demonstrated a passion for serving others and his country. He was friendly, humble, and had a sharp, sarcastic sense of humor. Friends said that while under the intense pressure and deadlines at the Academy, he had a way of “calling out the elephant in the room” and could get everyone laughing! He was also quick to set his own needs aside to help his fellow Mids.

LTJG Lorimer had a passion for all things mechanical and enjoyed helping and spending time with his friends and family while home on leave. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially running and cycling, and enjoyed participating in RAGBRAI – the “(Des Moines) Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa” after his graduation in 2019. While growing up, he ran many races with his Dad and younger brother Sam, and completed his first full marathon while stationed in Charleston, in January 2020.

His family honors his legacy by honoring our veterans, and respect for our country and flag.

AJay is deeply loved and tremendously missed by his friends and family.
