MIDN 3/C Hans P. Loewen (USNA '16)
Hans was lost on March 29, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in a skateboarding accident.
Hans was a 2012 graduate of Topsail High School in Hampstead, North Carolina. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and played drums for the Hampstead United Methodist and Topsail Presbyterian Churches. At the Naval Academy Hans was studying Oceanography, was Secretary of the Rock Climbing Club, and member of the Mountaineering Team and the America Nuclear Society.
For every MIDN 3/C Hans Loewen bracelet sold, $10 will be donated to the NRA Whittington Center.

“My wife, Barbara and I join the Brigade, staff and faculty in mourning the loss of Midshipman Hans Loewen,” said Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Michael Miller. “Hans was a vibrant Midshipman who lived his life to the fullest, and that spirit will be forever imprinted on his classmates and the Naval Academy. As we celebrate Hans’ courage and commitment, we also come together in support for his family and friends, and all who were touched by his presence. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Loewen’s, and our extended USNA family, during this very difficult time.”
