United States Navy Petty Officer First Class Christopher J. Chambers passed away on January 11, 2024 while in the line of duty.

Chambers was born in Bethesda, Maryland and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Having been part of a tight-knit family, he, his sister, and cousins went to the same school together and spent summers by the local pool. Chambers grew up playing various sports, swimming being his strongest. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2009 where he was a part of the swimming team and was also briefly the University’s beloved mascot, Testudo. Chambers was remembered as always having had a smile on his face and having been a genuine and nice person; a leader. He met his wife Mikale, in Pacific Beach, San Diego in 2014 while she was enrolled in San Diego State University. The pair shared a connection and were later married.

Born into a proud lineage of servicemen, Chambers answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy in 2012. Driven by a passion for challenge and a commitment to excellence, he graduated from SEAL training in 2014, joining one of the most elite military forces in the world. While he found great fulfillment in the physical demands and excitement of his career, his deepest motivation was a profound sense of duty to be part of something greater than himself. Chambers was, above all, a proud American. Throughout his distinguished career, Chambers embodied the SEAL ethos of perseverance, integrity, and honor. His commitment to hard work and leadership leaves a lasting mark on both his teammates and the next generation of SEALs, whom he sought to inspire by example. His service was recognized with numerous commendations, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals with Combat, a Combat Action Ribbon, and three additional Navy Achievement Medals, among others. Chambers also earned multiple elite qualifications, serving as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC), JTAC Instructor, Sniper, and Navy Instructor. On January 11, while leading a raid in the Gulf of Aden, Chambers tragically slipped between the SEALs’ combat craft and the vessel they were boarding. Despite an exhaustive 11-day search and rescue effort, both Chambers and a fellow SEAL were declared lost at sea. The mission shifted to recovery, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of both men. Chambers and his teammate gave their lives in service to their country, passing as heroes.

Chambers’ legacy lives on in the hearts of those he served with and the many lives he touched through his dedication, courage, and selflessness. His memory will forever inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

Mikale currently resides in California with her daughter, Kennedy. Together, they enjoy beach camping, visiting the zoo, and spending time with their two golden retrievers.
