Sgt. Matthew "Matt" Michael Gantt, age 40, of Chicago, IL passed away on June 11, 2019 at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago. Matt was born on March 6, 1979, in Kettering, OH. He was the son of Michael and Jeanne (Winfield) Gantt of Kettering, OH. On October 24, 2015, he married Jackie Kalan of Cleveland, OH.

Matt graduated in 1997 from Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering. He attended Bowling Green State University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.

After graduating from college, Matt enlisted in the United States Army where he became a devoted and skilled soldier and patriot for his Country and flag. Through his hard work and commitment, he rose to the rank of Sergeant. During his military service to his Country, Matt was a Human Intelligence Collector serving tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. During his Army career, he was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Along with his father, Michael, and wife, Jackie, Matthew is survived by his loving family including: sisters, Terri (Tom) Meyer, Angie Gantt, Nicole (Matt) Nuesse, Christina Gantt (Jared Stonecash), and Jackie (Barry) Wisecup; brothers, Jonathan Gantt and Andrew Gantt; father and mother-in-law, Michael and Sue Kalan, and brothers-in-law, Steve Kalan and Christian Kalan. Additionally, Matt leaves a legacy of loving nieces and nephews that he loved very much: Megan, Danielle, Lauren, Ellie, Carson, Bella, Josie, Kamden, and Benjamin. Matt also has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends that will greatly miss him.

Matt was preceded in death by his loving mother, Jeanne Kay Gantt.

Proceeds from the SGT Matthew Michael Gantt memorial bracelet will be donated to Legacies Alive.
